Fresh, Natural Makeup

At the moment, I’m really enjoying fresh, natural looking makeup.  I used to love wearing 10 different eyeshadows at one time and a bold lip that you could see from the moon, but not recently.  Instead of seeing my face as a canvas for fun colours, I’ve been trying to enhance what’s already there.  Embracing my freckles instead of trying to cover them, opting for more natural lip colours and aiming for that healthy, bright-eyed look.

The Lighter Base // Natural finish, light to medium bases are my preference for a fresh makeup look.  For the lightest coverage, I pick the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint.  This doesn’t really give any coverage actually, it’s more like it just evens out my skin tone. Freckles and any imperfections still shine through, but I quite like that sometimes.  If you prefer a light-medium coverage base, the Bourjois Healthy Mix (used in picture) or Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundations are good options.  Your skin stills looks like skin, just more even in colour and tone.  Blemishes still peek through slightly, but this is easy to correct with spot concealing.  If you have oilier skin, the L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte foundation has great lasting power and a matte yet luminous finish.

Cream/Liquid Face Products //  Creams and liquids keep your complexion looking fresh and luminous.  Once you’ve layered face powder, powder bronzer, powder blush and powder highlight, things can look a bit heavy and cakey.  My favourite cream/liquid blushes are Glossier Cloud Paints and Chantecaille cheek gelée blush (used in picture). For highlight, I love the Iconic London illuminator drops and the Glossier Haloscope highlighter in Moonstone (used in picture).  Both are beautiful, but have very different effects.  The Iconic London drops are super metallic and blinding, whereas the Glossier highlight is more of a wet/glossy look.  For bronzer, my pick is the L’Oreal Glam Bronze cushion bronzer (used in picture).  It’s nicely pigmented and can be built up to your desired level of bronze.  It also doesn’t slip and slide anywhere throughout the day.

Pink Everything // I always find myself reaching for different variations of pink when aiming for a fresh and natural look.  My favourite pink cheek colours are Chantecaille ‘Happy’ and Glossier ‘Puff’.  For lips, I avoid any super matte finishes – only juicy looking lips allowed! My favourites are MAC ‘Politely Pink’ and ‘Chatterbox‘, Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in ‘Candy’ (used in picture) and Guerlain Rouge G in the shade 6.

Bright, Fresh Eyes // I steer clear of anything heavy or dark on the eyes, opting for light shimmery all-over-the-lid shadows instead, with a super bright inner corner highlight.  For the inner corner, I’ll either use my face highlighter or the eyeshadow shade ‘Ice Queen’ from Makeup Geek (used in picture).  For the all over wash of colour, I love Makeup Geek ‘Shimma Shimma‘ – a champagne shimmer (used in picture).  For something with a little more colour, the By Terry Ombre Blackstars in ‘Frozen Quartz and ‘Misty Rock‘ are beautiful.  They’re super reflective and easy to apply and a quick blend with a finger.  For mascara, I like to use a super volumising one like the Kevyn Aucion ‘The Essential Mascara’ (used in picture).  It really opens up the eyes and holds a curl well.  I also love to apply a flesh toned eye liner to the waterline to open up the eyes even more.  These come in a variety of shades such as nude, light pink and white – with nude being the most natural looking.  At the moment I’m loving the Marc Jacobs eyeliner in ‘Pink of Me‘ (used in picture),  however MAC do great nude-toned liners which match your skin tone.
